Oracle Database - RAC 12c - Convert ASM to Flex ASM

In this blog I will be discussing converting Normal ASM to Flex ASM

ASM Conversion Script is generated using ASMCA and is run as root user on the local node.
It requires rolling restart of cluster components.


Step 1 - Verify ASM mode 

[grid@rac1 ~]$ asmcmd showclustermode
ASM cluster : Flex mode disabled
[grid@rac1 ~]$ srvctl config asm
ASM home: <CRS home>
Password file: +DATA/orapwASM

ASM listener: LISTENER

Step 2 - Use asmca to generate the configuration script

 I am choosing network interface which as left unused during time of installation
Interface 4 or enps10 here. I had kept this interface idle at the time of installation to use it for Flex ASM use only.

Also, the ASM listener port is going to run on port 1522

Click OK

Step 2 - run the script

Run the provide script to convert to Flex ASM

Flex Mode for ASM is now enabled

Click on close  and then Okay to finish.
